You’ve probably landed on this page because you want to know how to install a new WordPress theme…and you wont be disappointed. Below I’ve laid out a short and easy to follow step-by-step tutorial including screenshots showing you two ways to install a new WordPress theme on your self-hosted WordPress blog.
The First way will require an FTP (file transfer protocol) such as FileZilla. This will allow you to transfer files between your computer and your hosting server.
Step 1:
Find the theme you wish to install on your WordPress blog and download it.
Step 2:
On your computer, find the newly downloaded theme and un-zip it.
Step 3:
Fire-up Filezila or whatever FTP client you’re using. Input your hosting account URL, user name, and password, then click quick connect. Now on the left side you should see all the files on your computer and on the right side you should see all your files on your hosting account.
On the ‘right’ (servers side) find the the correct folder containing your existing wordpress themes. (wp-content/themes)
Step 4
Find the theme folder you downloaded and unzipped earlier on the left side of your FTP client and drag and drop it into your wp-content/themes folder on the right side. The theme should only take a few seconds to download.
Step 5
Login into your WordPress admin panel. Go to appearance/themes and you should see the theme you just uploaded. All that’s left to do now is click activate and your new theme is live!
